Field note 04 · The plan

A modest outing can still teach you something

Preparation can be improved without a remarkable result at the water.

Choose a manageable plan

Account for getting there, setting down equipment and returning. Leave room to shorten the visit if circumstances change. Do not equate a longer session with a better one. The intended place, current conditions and the actual kit are more useful planning details.

Keep attention practical

Leave shared routes clear and avoid spreading out more equipment than needed. Be aware of people around you. A quiet session still requires ordinary attention; taking photographs or comparing setups should not replace awareness of the area.

One change afterwards

Write one concrete preparation improvement and one useful choice to repeat. Avoid explaining the whole result with a single guessed cause. The workbench collection is about dependable habits, not promises of success or a ranking of other people’s outings.
